Blog Takeover: The ice-breaker

Hello friends! Liam, the intern, here! I’m going to be taking over the PYT blog for the next few weeks, while I’m here!

Its’s been a fortnight since I’ve arrived in Prague for this internship. It’s flown by! The last time I was here was for the Prague Fringe Festival. I had an amazing time, but I only had the energy to do my play every evening! No time for touristy stuff.

Having a whole month here means I’ve got a great opportunity to fix that problem. I’ve already been to all the highlights; Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square, and more. Drinking in the beautiful architecture and getting lost in the city has been an absolute treat!

Since this is my first post, it’d be best to start with a little bit about me.

I’ve been working as a drama facilitator on and off for the past 5 years. I didn’t really develop a taste for it until the Emerald Isle Theatre Company, though. Eight months performing plays and running workshops for French and Belgian schools really let me appreciate just how much fun running workshops is! All the anxieties and worries that tend to be at the back of my mind when I’m acting or writing (quiet, but still there) are totally absent when I’m running  a workshop. It’s honestly the best job I’ve ever had!

There’s a reason I’m holding up a book in the photo too; it’s a cheeky plug! Laying the Foundations is a publication from Youth Theatre Ireland, by Dave Kelly. It goes through a 10 week programme he uses when working with a new group of young people with Dublin Youth Theatre, and it’s been a huge inspiration for me as a facilitator and teacher. I’ll be sharing some of my favourite games from it, and beyond, over the next few weeks!

Catch Liam performing his award-nominated show RedPill on Monday 25th September at The Prague Visitor Centre. Full details here
